In the 1880 census. A person was living with Sarah and Samuel named Henry Edinger, although no relation to them was given the space indicated.  He was 17 years old at the time.  Sarah would have been 48 years old at his birth.  If anyone knows of how Henry fits in please let me know

-

Samuel’s occupations were listed as a shoemaker in the 1850 census and a farmer in 1880.

The parents of Samuel Edinger appear to be Andrew Edinger and Anna Mariah Waggoner.

George served as a private in Co G of the 155th Regiment of Pennsylvania Infantry Volunteers.  He enlisted July 27, 1862 and was discharged at Washington. D.C. June 2, 1865.  In 1863, while near the Rhappahacmock River, George developed a fever.  He was sent to the hospital on September 15.  When he returned he was still in ill health.  He was sent again to the Hareman Hospital in Washington, D. C. just before discharge.

Here is a picture of George Edinger at a reunion of Co. G, 155th.  Other possibly related members of G. Company were Andrew J. Edinger (we know now that this is George’s brother), John Edinger and Andrew Edinger.  If anyone recognizes these names, please let me know.

After the war, George returned to St. Petersburg, Clarion County, where he resided from 1865-1878.  The 1870 census, however, lists a George W. Eddinger, age 30 working as an engineer for an oil company in Armstrong County.  This is substantiated by affidavit in George’s extensive Civil War disability pension application that he was injured in 1872  at Parkers Landing while helping to unload an Engine from Railroad car and furthermore, that in 1870 or 1871 fell from the top of an oil derrick a distance of about 40 feet sustaining injury to right shoulder causing a partial paralysis.  (NB:  George’s death certificate lists his occupation as a shoemaker)

From about 1878 to 1889, he states that he resided in Southwestern Missouri.  In an affidavit which describes various medical treatments George received for his ailments, he states that “ in the summer of 1881 I was not under the care of Dr. Horton in Avila, MO.  I have located an Avilla in Jasper, Co, Mo, which is indeed in the southwestern part of the state.

After 1889, George returned to Pennsylvania, settling in Venango Co.  The 1890 Veterans census shows him living in Emlenton, Richland Twp.

George died May 24, 1910 in Emlenton, where he was listed with Kate and Alma in the 1910 census.  His listed cause of death was a lymph disorder.  He was buried first at St Petersburg Cemetery in Clarion county.  In 1923, daughter Alma had his body and that of his son, Samuel G. P. to the Emlenton Cemetery number 66, Section.

, she was born about 1845, which means she was about

15 years old in 1870 and could have been married and living with her husband.  According to the A/S index there was a Jacob W. Alt living in Beaver Twp. in 1850. I will check that out as well.  It is also interesting to note that George W. Edinger stated that Savilla died in Licking Township.  Please let me know if you have any information. We don’t know much about Savilla at the point. We know that she had a sister.  Angelina Aft Boyer, who filed an affidavit on behalf of Kate Edinger.  I suspect she may be the daughter of Jacob and Mariah Alt. We think that Savilla was about 18 years old when she died in 1869.  This was probably due to complications from the birth of her son, John.  At any rate, this would have made her about 9 years old in 1860.  We also have the information that she was buried Beaver Twp, in Clarion County.  The only Alt family that had girl of 9 years old in Clarion county in 1860 was that of Jacob and Margaret Alt of Licking township.  The girl in question is named Maria.  Angelina was not with that family that year, but according to the 1910 census
