My Poem;

                                                                                           11-17-01

                                                                                        To the 155th.

                                                                                                By

                                                                                  Tommy Hammerbeck

They were called to duty from factory and farm.

The 155th P.V.I. thus was formed.

Sons of Pennsylvania so strong and so brave.

They all fought together the Union to save.

Their duty always, always was done

For the 155th always fought as one.

Messmate and officer stood side by side.

Neither turning nor running they held fast with pride.

Through tortures of battle, through disease and pain,

Their honor and valor was always sustained.

They all gave some thing so we could live free.

Sons of the Union, much like you and like me.

They gave us their valor and deeds to share.

We honor their giving and show that we care.

Through us their valor, their sorrow, their pain,

Given for freedom was not done in vain.

The 155th is assembled near by,

The same light of pride gleams in each soldier’s eye.

I know that their colors this day they can see,

The 155th lives through you and through me.

Open your hearts, and listen today,

And you shall hear what these brave men say.

As they assemble heads held high, lets pray

Each one feels honored by us on this day.

                                                            “Thank God for your courage,

                                                              you deeds brave and true,

Thank God for the sacrifice that you went through,

Thank God for the 155th, one and all.

You let us live free when you answered the call.

You give us all pride as we shed silent tear.

For the 155th  that we love so dear.

For you our dear loved ones, we gather this day,

To honor your service, and simply to say,

The 155th    still stands strong and bright,

For it lives in our hearts as we stand for what’s right.”
